Your guide to a Pattaya evening
Pattaya has long been known as one of Thailand’s main party hubs and this reputation is well deserved. The choice of bars, restaurants, clubs and shows at this lively seaside resort just one hour from the capital is overwhelming. While traditionally Pattaya has appealed mostly to those in search of adult fun, the city has diversified its evening entertainment beyond this to appeal to a larger crowd, including families.
Live music and discos
There is plenty of choice when is comes to live music in bubbly Pattaya, with dozens of bars offering live bands each evening as well as DJs and busy dance floors. The biggest pick of venues can be found along the city’s main entertainment strip, Walking Street, but there are dozens of other establishments off Beach Road and in North Pattaya.
Cabarets shows are something Pattaya excels in. Both Tiffany and Alcazar offer quality performances nightly in which ladyboys in dazzling costumes take to the stage. If this doesn’t appeal, get a dose of adrenalin at a Thai kickboxing match. More laid back pursuits are also available such as bowling and watching a film, with three bowling alleys and two cinemas in Pattaya.
If you need a break from the city’s crowded dance floors and live music venues, take a stroll along the pretty promenade or simply watch the world go by in a café along the seafront. More on Pattaya.
Bars
The bar scene in Pattaya is renowned for its pretty hostesses and lively go-go bars but there are also dozens of drinking dens that appeal to a broader range of clientele. In fact, there are more than 600 bars to choose from. Most visitors start their bar-hopping along Walking Street, a pedestrianised strip of everything from loud discos to Irish pubs, but there are other bar areas to choose from.
Pattayaland is within walking distance of Walking Street and is bursting with go-go bars filled with gorgeous ladies as well as gay-friendly bars. The beer bars off Beach Road are also popular, with many being open air and laid back. For everything from live music to German brew houses and wine bars, head for Soi’s 6 to 8, where couples can enjoy a friendly night out. Recommended bars in Pattaya.
Restaurants
Before you delve into Pattaya’s after-hours entertainment—both naughty and nice—don’t overlook checking out the fantastic dining scene the city has developed over the past decade. While much of the fare is tailored to meet Western tastes, you can still seek out those spicy Thai favourites.
South Pattaya has one of the best dining scenes in the city and is a great place to enjoy a meal before partying along Walking Street. If you prefer to dine at the centre of the action then head straight for the neon-filled Walking Street and choose from any one of its international eateries, Irish pubs or Thai style restaurants. For authentic Thai fare, try dining off the main strip at the more low-key places where the locals dine. Recommended Pattaya restaurants.
